About Gobustan

Gobustan State Historical-Artistic Reserve is a reserve where a complex of archaeological monuments is protected on the territory of Azerbaijan, near Baku. The reserve is located in the Gobustan settlement of Garadagh district, 55 km from the capital Baku. A museum also operates here. The reserve mainly exhibits Mesolithic (Middle Stone Age) monuments – rock paintings made by ancient people, and other material sources related to their life and everyday life.

Gobustan State’s historical-artistic reserve was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2007. The reserve is under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. A museum also operates here.
